There are plenty of free events happening across London to celebrate Black history and culture:

  • London Museum Docklands: Attend a 45-minute talk on Black Tudor London or explore the London, Sugar & Slavery gallery. (October -December)
  • Legacy and Hope Concert: Enjoy a night of music with classical opera singers and a community choir, inspired by the Black diaspora. (4 October
  • Black Culture Market: Browse stalls selling unique clothing, skincare, jewellery, art, food, and more from African and Caribbean businesses. (5-6 October)
  • The Making of My Dad, Mr Brixton: Listen to Claudette Parry Laws talk about her father, a Windrush generation pioneer, and his impact on Black British history. (7 October)

London celebrates Black culture and communities with events, exhibitions, and landmarks throughout the year. Here’s how you can explore:

  • Black History Tube Map: Check out this special map from TfL and the Black Cultural Archives, highlighting the contributions of Black people to London.
  • Nigeria60 at the Horniman Museum: Explore 60 years of Nigerian independence through objects, pictures, and stories.
  • Blue and Nubian Jak Plaques: Go on a hunt for these plaques that honour influential Black people who made a lasting impact on London and the world.
  • Gilt of Cain Sculpture: Visit this sculpture in the City of London, which marks the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade in 1807.
