Last Friday afternoon local residents came together for a party at our Athlone Estate in Kentish Town to celebrate the glorious summer we’ve had. We want to help more residents organise community events in their local area.
Athlone Hall, in the Athlone Estate, is a space where community groups have been holding all sorts of events over the decades. Our Community Development Team wanted to hold an event there to celebrate the summer, encourage the community to come together and remind local residents that anyone can book out the hall and organise an event.
There really was something for everyone at the summer party: from face painting to a tabletop sale, a raffle, a martial arts taster session, music, and children’s games and people also brought food to share.
People gave us their ideas of how to use the hall for the benefit of the community - so keep an eye on the website as we develop an exciting new programme of events.
We have a number of community spaces available, including two community halls: Athlone Hall in Kentish Town and Basil Jellicoe Hall in Somers Town, both in the borough of Camden. The spaces have been perfect for both one-off events and regular sessions for sports and community groups, like We Are Ageing Better’s year-round schedule of events, and the weekly ping pong club. We’re pleased to be able to offer a discount to our residents and local charities and community groups.
An event like the Athlone summer party is a fantastic way to bring people from the community together and get to know each other. If you live in one of our estates and would like to see a community event happening in your neighbourhood, or if you’d like to start a resident group and need a place to meet, please get in touch at CommunityDevelopmentTeam@originhousing.org.uk to get the ball rolling!
