I first met Dom when he came into our Enfield Employment Hub, then based in Ponders End. He was living locally, and had been prompted to come along by his mentor from Settle – who support some of our temporary housing residents to manage their first homes.
When we first talked through what type of work he was looking for, he said he’d been applying for apprenticeships in the IT sector without much luck. Looking at all of his options, he decided to change his industry and apply for a construction apprenticeship.
Through our partners K10 Apprenticeships, Dom secured a role as an apprentice labourer on a site in Baker Street. Shortly after, the site had financial difficulties and Dom moved to work on a nearby Mulalley site, where he could complete his training. This turned out to be a great move for Dom, as he was then able to gain a Team Leader qualification at Level 2 – thanks to K10 and Mulalley’s training scheme.
I’m really proud that Dom was able turn around the initial difficulties moving site and qualified with his Level 2 Apprenticeship – a great achievement that certainly means his future is looking bright.
During 2016-17, our Employment Support service helped 40 people get into sustainable work, and many more are much closer through our support with things like CV-writing and interview technique.
